Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization based in New York City. Founded in 1974 in Manhattan’s Chinatown to advocate for equal rights, AAFE has transformed in the past four decades to become one of the city’s leading housing, social service and community development organizations. AAFE advances racial, social and economic justice for Asian Americans and other systematically disadvantaged communities, guided by our experiences as Asian Americans and our commitment to civil rights. AAFE is nationally recognized as an innovative affordable housing developer and property manager; we have created and preserved more than 1,000 affordable rental units in Manhattan and Queens and provided over $400 million in mortgage financing for first-time homebuyers. Through our affiliate, Renaissance Economic Development Corporation, AAFE supports immigrant entrepreneurs, offering low-interest loans and training programs. From neighborhood offices in Chinatown and the Lower East Side (Manhattan) and Flushing and Jackson Heights (Queens) we provide an array of multilingual counseling and educational programs in support of low-income tenants, seniors and immigrant youth. AAFE strives for a more equitable city, through research, advocacy and grassroots community organizing. 

 

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

AAFE is actively seeking an Operations Manager. This is a key position that will support the Executive Director and Chief of Staff in central office operations that are both administrative and strategic in nature. This individual will be the source critical organization-wide information and manage important administrative deadlines..  Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Operations Manager will be responsible for the following:

Responsibilities

Administrative Operations

  • Develop, update, and train AAFE staff on protocols for cross-departmental operations that are centrally managed.
  • Maintain the official record of all business entities, track and submit relevant filings with the help of relevant departments and share with relevant departments.
  • Maintain a database of organizational policies and procedures.
  • Draft or update policies and procedures.
  • Project manage operational systems improvements.
  • Provide project management capacity to individual departments for operational workflow improvement and documentation where appropriate.
  • Other operational duties as assigned.

 

Strategic Operations

  • Support the strategic planning process as part of the project management team.
  • Assist in coordinating the development of key performance indicators.
  • Assist in developing a dashboard and maintaining it for the leadership team to monitor performance.
  • Assist in coordinating board meetings, minutes, materials, and follow-up items.
  • Perform financial or data analysis as directed by the Chief of Staff, and in coordination with the relevant department(s).

 

Grants & Contracts Management

  • Document and propose improvements for grants and contract management workflows between departments. 

Qualifications

Qualifications & Requirements:

We are seeking a candidate with a depth of experience in all areas of organizational function, who will possess excellent leadership skills, social skills and active listening.  The ideal candidate will be part people-person, part process maven and will have a genuine love for executing change.   

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) in operations management, business administration or related field.
  • 3+ years of proven success in an operations management role.   
  • Excellent computer skills, including a high degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
  • Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to present information to a diverse client base- specifically racially, ethnically and socially diverse.
  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and prioritize while working under multiple deadlines
  • Experience managing, developing, and training staff, preferred
  • Experience developing, writing, and implementation of policies, SOPs, handbooks, and effective practices documents, preferred
  • Bilingual in English/Chinese, a plus

COMPENSATION:

AAFE offers rich benefits, recognition, opportunities for professional growth and competitive salaries.  Salary offers will be based on the candidate’s experience in similar roles and will fall between a range of $90,000 - $110,000.
