Overview

AAFE Community Services is seeking a Staff Generalist, Resident Services to provide enhanced social services and engagement within partner East Harlem locations, NYCHA and our AAFE residential tenants.  

The Staff Generalist, Resident Services program  objective is two-fold, to provide engagement and support for the growing AAPI population in key NYCHA developments, including building bridges among different ethnic and cultural groups within NYCHA to empower residents to become involved in shaping their collective futures in the community. Within our AAFE residential services program, the Staff Generalist, Resident Services team will develop and coordinate programming and resources for our tenant population and neighboring community members to build stronger resident cohesion and to build an authentic and engaged residential community. 

Responsibilities

  • Support community needs and assessment that identifies shared values, connective tissue and common experiences 
  • Develop activities, events, workshops that can even accelerate the forming process in a group and that breakdown psychological or cultural barriers between people. This includes cultural, mental health, workforce financial literacy workshops, self-care and wellness classes, pantry, tenant recreation clubs and activities, senior activities, and mutual aid events.
  • Identify local organizations and residents in the community who want to adopt a strengths-based approach to building hospitable and inclusive communities. Use these connections to build local partnerships that encourage collaboration between organizations and residents. 
  • Collaborate with other AAFE community services programs, as well as the property management team to ensure mission alignment and success.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, including mentoring, coaching and training. 
  • Engage and provide orientation about light-touch services, including initial needs assessment and follow through assessment, and establish routine check-ins. 
  • Assist clients to communicate directly and proactively with the landlord and act as a conduit between tenant and landlord when necessary to resolve issues.
  • Maintain regular contact with tenants to ensure client housing retention, including referrals to external workforce, education, mental health programs and concrete support around applying for and renewing entitlements and benefits. 
  • Develop and supervise resource events for tenants and cultivate resident engagement and collaboration as community stakeholders. 
  • Participate in meetings as required. Ensure timely communication with the landlord regarding tenant status.
  • Maintain thorough, timely and accurate progress notes, files, and correspondences 
  • Regular attendance is a requirement of the position
  • Follows policies and procedures, completes administrative tasks accurately and on time and supports organizational goals and values.
  • Perform other related work and duties as assigned

Education:

 

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Social Work of related field, preferred Master’s degree in Social work or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years work experience in community and/or program development in a Community based organization
  • Computer literate – Word, Excel
