Through our affiliate, Renaissance Economic Development Corporation, AAFE supports immigrant entrepreneurs, offering low-interest loans and training programs. From neighborhood offices in Chinatown and the Lower East Side (Manhattan) and Flushing and Jackson Heights (Queens) we provide an array of multilingual counseling and educational programs in support of low-income tenants, seniors and immigrant youth. AAFE strives for a more equitable city, through research, advocacy and grassroots community organizing. 

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Senior Center Manager will be responsible for managing an existing social adult day care center located at 111 Norfolk Street in the Lower East Side.  This center had been in operation since 2014, with five full-time staff serving approximately 50 enrolled members before the COVID-19 pandemic.  Since March 2020, the center has one full time-staff and a group of volunteers who organize weekly grocery deliveries for almost 30 members in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.  Center staff have also organized virtual social groups for members to stay in touch with each other.  

 

The ideal candidate will have experience operating a social adult daycare program in New York City and is dedicated to supporting the ability of low-income seniors to live and thrive independently with nutritious meals and health screenings; social, physical and mental enrichment activities; and active civic engagement.  

 

Reporting to the Managing Director for Community Services, the Program Manager will be responsible for reopening the Center for operations, 9am – 3pm, 5 days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Marketing, outreach, recruitment and retention of senior members residing in Chinatown and the Lower East Side.  
  • Eligibility screening for acceptance into the program, working with MLTC (Managed Long-Term Care) insurance providers 
  • Plan and organize all activities and services provided by the program (including meals; transportation; social and recreational activities; social service referrals; and educational and civic engagement activities)
  • Actively refer members to AAFE Community Services and other social service providers for entitlement benefits assistance and case management
  • Build and manage partnerships with AAFE Community Services and other community organizations to organize educational workshops and civic engagement activities
  • Ensure compliance with NYC and NYS regulations for social adult day care programs
  • Provide staff oversight to prepare meals and organize senior center activities.
  • Maintain thorough, timely, and accurate reports of member activities and outcomes, to support monthly billing and reporting of program outcomes 
  • Participate in AAFE Community Services and organization-wide meetings as required.  
  • Perform other related work and duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bilingual/Fluent in English/Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese 
  • At least 3-years of successful experience in managing a social adult day care program and/or senior center programs serving low-income seniors in New York City
  • Experience with supervising and managing staff to deliver services with quality, efficiency, and care
  • Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated attention to detail and focus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite and social media platforms
  • Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to present information to a diverse client base- specifically racially, ethnically and socially diverse.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive materials and information
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple complex projects

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree or any combination of High School degree or equivalent with any experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the job responsibilities.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The position requires sitting, standing, walking (both inside and outside of the office) and occasional lifting and carrying of approximately 30 pounds (event materials and/or office supplies).
