JUNIOR ACCOUNANT CDFI

The Junior Accountant CDFI provides day-to-day accounting support for two affiliate entities of AAFE known as Renaissance Economic Development Corp (“REDC”) and AAFE Community Development Fund (“CDF”).  These entities are Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) certified by the US Treasury to provide financial literacy and access to capital to low income small business owners and home buyers, respectively, for the purpose of economic development in distressed communities. 

Summary:

Under the supervision of the Senior Accountant CDFI, the Junior Accountant CDFI prepares, records and processes accounts payable and cash disbursements; maintains an effective system for invoicing and following up on reimbursements; reviews open invoice reports and follows up with schedule of payments or adjustments; maintains required records, reports, and files in an organized manner; completes any other tasks as assigned by the Senior Accountant CDFI.

• General Journal Entries –

• Record in a timely manner general journal entries as required with supporting documentation and justification for the entries into the Fiscal Management System (known as MIP) for the Senior Accountant to review and Controller to approve. 

• Accounts Payables –

• Accurately create vendor bills, sending payments after approvals and record payments on a time basis (ie: daily)
• Recording payments based on contract cost allocations
• Provide A/P aging report 
• Prepare vendor 1099s

• Accounts Receivables –

• Create invoices and apply payments on a timely basis (ie: daily)
• Follow up on contract reimbursements
• Provide A/R aging report

• Accounts Reconciliation –

• Reconcile all accounts (e.g., cash bank accounts, receivables, payables, fixed assets, prepaids) for Renaissance Economic Development Corp (“REDC”) and AAFE Community Development Fund (“CDF”) and then submit the reconciliations for Senior Accountant or Controller to review and approve. All accounts must be reconciled on a monthly basis. 
• Assist with reconciliation of Loan and Interest Receivables with the Portfolio Management Department. 
• Assist with reconciliation of the Loan Loss Reserves accounts to be reported to funder
• Payroll and Benefits – 
• Work with AAFE Human Resources and 3rd party payroll & benefits provider to record payroll and benefits transactions. 

• Property Tax 

• Review Quarterly property tax payments and file with NYC Dept of Finance

• System controls –

• Maintain and update general ledger, chart of accounts, system access rights, system integrity and other system requirements (Online banking, ProfitStars for ACH, etc.) at the direction of Senior Accountant or Controller.
• Timely processing of change requests (new, change, terminated GL Accounts and mappings)
• Assist the Controller with month-end close and with all balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations as part of the monthly close process

• Reporting and Analysis – 
• Assist with Quarterly and Annual financial statement preparation and supporting schedules for senior management, board and auditors. 
• Prepare preliminary analysis for journal entries, supporting documentation and justification for the entries to MIP for the Senior Accountant or Controller to review and approval related to the annual audit 
• Assist the Fiscal team with the various reporting (e.g., tax returns, financial statements, government contracts, funder reports) to Regulatory Agencies, Government and Private Funders for review and approval by the Senior Accountant or Controller   

• Other Requirements - 

• Contribute to the preparation of the REDC & CDF annual operating budget. 
• Support the REDC/CDF Managing Director, AAFE Co-EDs, CFO and other personnel in all aspects of financial reporting. 
• Assist other Fiscal personnel in expediting the timely flow of information as required
• Maintain the integrity of the accounting system and to facilitate their financial reporting requirements. 
• Perform ad hoc requests that arise from time to time - mostly from REDC/CDF Managing Director, Fiscal, Co-ED or fiscal staff.

• 1-3 years of nonprofit accounting experience.
• Thorough experience and knowledge of non-for-profit and for-profit tax and insurance activities, rules and regulations.
• A strong background with preparing monthly and quarterly grant reimbursements.
• Experience working with all aspects of Accounts Payable/Receivable.
• Experience with reviewing Financial Statements.
• Knowledge of accounts payables procedures and principles.
• Working knowledge of US GAAP Accounting
• Familiarity with MIP Fiscal Management System preferred.
• Strong preference for Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) accounting experience
• Understanding of general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close processes.
• Accuracy and attention to detail, thoroughness, organized and meeting deadlines.
