Overview

Fiscal AAFE, Inc, provides SBA and personal finance and accounting support for Renaissance Economic Development Corp (“REDC”) and AAFE Community Development Fund (“CDF”).  

 

Summary:

The Senior Accountant / Lending Controller is the staff member responsible for maintaining the financial control and integrity of the lending segment (REDC and CDF) fiscal processes, controls, fiscal resources, data, and technology.  This role is responsible for enhancing the end-2-end Lending cross functional process. This position reports to the AAFE Inc Controller and manages one employee.

Responsibilities

  • Resource and Fiscal capabilities management - The Senior Accountant responsibilities takes on a leadership role within Fiscal and the Lending segment.
  • Transition from implementer of process to a process improvement leader and mentor to the Junior Accountant whether directly reporting to or working alongside in another functional area. 
  • Provide insight and actively attend discussions and initiatives regarding processes, controls, reporting and analysis.
  • Mentor and develop the Junior Accountants and other cross-functional emerging leaders. 

 

  • Data gathering and validation

 

  • Directing cross functional and other Fiscal team members to embrace continuous process improvement, provide data quality improvement suggestions, and managing data initiatives directly or through the guidance of other Fiscal or cross functional areas.
  • Assist other Fiscal AAFE personnel in expediting the timely flow of information as required.
  • System controls -Salesforce, MIP GL 
  • Design Lending processes, controls, 
  • Maintain and update chart of accounts, system access rights, system integrity and other system requirements (Online banking, ProfitStars, etc.).
  • Participate in companywide Accounting software evaluations (e.g., Salesforce, Intact, NetSuite) to facilitated data and documentation storage, process flow, security and controls and compatibility with other related systems (e.g., MIP, Portfol).
  • Provide guidance to direct reports or other cross functional resources regarding system integrity and consistent maintenance across all Fiscal processes and controls.
  • Process Controls 
  • System maintenance -Timely processing of change requests (new, change, terminated GL Accounts and mappings). 
  • Monthly / Quarterly / Annual closing process - Prepare preliminary analysis for journal entries, supporting documentation and justification for the entries to MIP Accounting software for the segment partner, CFO or above review and approval.
  • Account reconciliations – Prepare or coordinate account balance and activities reconciliations (e.g., cash accounts, receivables, payables, fixed assets, prepaids) for the Lending segment, and then submit the reconciliations for review and approval.
  • Create Centers of Excellence – Develop expertise for the Fiscal function (e.g., REDC and CDF).



  • Reporting and Analysis 
  • Annual financial statement independent auditor review - Prepare preliminary analysis for journal entries, supporting documentation and justification for the entries to MIP for review and approval related to the annual financial close; and assist with the year-end financial statement preparation and supporting schedules and analysis in support for the independent auditors. 
  • Lending segment duties 
    • Prepare preliminary monthly/ quarterly/ annual financial and non-financial reports and analysis (e.g., Internal, and external by Borrower / Lender). 
    • Contribute to the preparation of the REDC, CDF and other AAFE Affiliated entities annual operating budget. 
    • Support and partner with onsite segment leaders, Co-EDs, CFO, and other site personnel in all aspects of financial reporting. 
    • Monitor Segment receivables to ensure amounts due are recorded and that the payments are received timely. 
    • Maintain the integrity of the accounting system and to facilitate their financial reporting requirements. 
    • Assist the team with the various reporting (e.g., tax returns, financial statements) to Regulatory Agencies and for review and approval. 
    • Perform ad hoc requests that arise from time to time - mostly from Fiscal, Co-ED or segment leaders.
    • Lead organization’s annual Lending segment budgeting process, including working with program staff and senior leadership team. 
    • Develop Lending segment budget tracking and monitoring report throughout the year to share with Colleagues and to integrate with the overall AAFE financial process.
    • Lead periodic reviews of the Lending segment budgets with staff and jointly decide on necessary modification of allocation and/or adjustments of program design and delivery.
    • Liaise with Lending segment staff to review and analyze budget management, including budget variances, payment status, and unspent funds, etc.
    • Prepare and discuss Lending segment proposal budgets and funder spending reports.
    • Develop Lending grant contract budgets, record monthly expenses and monitor expenses against budgeted amounts.
    • Ensure contractual compliance with fiscal and programmatic reporting requirements.

  • Thorough experience and knowledge of Lending segment non-for-profit activities, rules, and regulations.
  • A strong background with preparing monthly and quarterly grant reimbursement.
  • Experience working with all aspects of Accounts Payable/Receivable.
  • Experience with reviewing Financial Statements.
  • Executive leadership, and resource management experience.
  • 3-5+ years of corporate accounting in non-for-profit experience.
  • Knowledge of accounts payables procedures and principles.
  • Understanding of general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close processes.
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized.
  • Excellent organization and administration skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail, thoroughness, and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel.
  • Familiarity with MIP and MDS software are preferred.
